A tale of one man and his quest for RRL glory!

Here at RRLeagues we pride ourselves on the fact that we have a group of regular drivers who participate in almost all our series. The benefit for all is a high standard of racing across the grid. Predictability and trust are important, also in sim racing. Sure, we do not get hurt when we crash, but being punted of the track and into the barriers is nevertheless a nasty experience.

This is not to say that we do not welcome new drivers in our series. Far from it, we encourage new drivers to sign up and take part in our events. The bigger the grid, the better the racing and the more fun for all.

For our recent series, season 60 - Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, a few new drivers signed up to race one of the new cars that Kunos (ACC) gave us in their latest release: the Challengers Pack. The season took us to six beautiful and challenging tracks, where this absolute monster from Stuttgart would be let loose in two races each round.

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car - a brutal machine.

Being a new car to ACC, one would expect it to be an ideal car to level the playing field, provide close racing where the championship would only be decided at the last race. It might even give the newcomers a shot at a spot in the RRLeagues Hall of Fame. And boy did it deliver…

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car is a beauty. She looks gorgeous and sounds phenomenal, but boy is she a handful! She can really bite you when you get too enthusiastic or when you give in to even the slightest of distractions. From first practice on, we knew it would be a challenge.

Round 1 saw us race under the blistering sunshine in Italy where one newcomer ran away with most of the prizes. When the dust settled this newcomer went home with two pole positions, two race wins and one fastest lap on the board. He instantly became the favourite for the title, as he seemed to be able to extract lap time from the car where others couldn't.

It was raining cats and dogs at Oulton

In the rounds that followed he kept his cool. Even the rain at Oulton Park, the slippery, twisty tracks of Zandvoort and Laguna Seca and the thin air at Kyalami could not stop him. Sure, other drivers took some points of him now and then, but he was always the man to beat.

And so we arrived at Donington Park for the season finale. Dry and sunny weather greeted us, but the British track still had some drama in store for us. David Dhoore was still in contention, but he needed a messy weekend from the championship leader to snatch the title.

And he nearly succeeded. David took two pole positions, and followed them up with two wins and one fastest lap. In the first race the newcomer came home second, but in the last race disaster struck and he scored his only DNF in the series.

Still it was not enough to keep him from 'losing' the title. When the chequered flag fell for the last time, he had scored 1021 points, 30 more than David Dhoore who took second place in the championship. The fight for third was even closer, Radek Pawlaczek outscored Ric Binnersley by only 5 points (695 vs 690).

After the epic battle, David Dhoore did get to lift a winners trophy. Together with his team mate Cliff Bulcke he won the Team Championship with 'Intense Racing'. The trophies for second and third place were picked up by team 'Seventy Seven' (Simon Fillingham and Ralf Arella) and BB Racing (Ric Binnersley and André Bergsma) respectively.

Intense Racing secure another Team Championship.

The AM Cup trophy was won by Dusan Magyar who fought a equally tense battle with Sev Lansley. Arben Nushi won bronze. The Iron Man trophy will be shared between Dusan Magyar and Ric Binnersley.

What an epic season, won by a new member of the RRLeague family. His name?

Max Beyer. He came, he saw and he conquered!
